Freedom of Speech Project

Ideas for this Project based on Freedom of Speech......
I have been doing some experimentation on carbon printing using oil pastels.  The harder you press down onto a blank sheet, the better the print appears as the pastel embosses clearly onto the paper.  These illustrations are of my family and friends portraying their thoughts on Freedom of Speech.  It's their thoughts on what should be allowed in society for all people and to prevent isolation.
Using quotes from Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela, I was able to play around and experiment with the text.  By this, I was able to make words within these quotes which had a relation to the meaning of the speech.
Experimentation with Typography
Experimentation with shadow and projection
I've decided to create a type of typography using a collage of cut-out lips and eyes from various magazines.  I wanted to portray some sort of text that would catch the viewers eyes and something that would be portrayed in advertisments, e.g. posters, magazines and much more.  The lips would symbolise the cause of what makes people feel alienated and damaged.  The eyes signify emotion and fear. (WIP)
Here is an illustration I created relating to the theme racism.  During the era of the 1950s-1960s, African Americans had been fighting against racial discrimination.  Segregated schools, transport, public toilets etc were made for the two races, but the coloured people were given the worst conditions.  For example better facilities were given to the whites, e.g. there was segregated water fountains to drink from and the white people were given a better conditioned sink, whereas blacks were only to use a less attractive and smaller sink with not so much water coming out of it.  As a result, this drawing signifies the unequal rights that the blacks had compared to the whites.  The eye itself also symbolises emotion and suffering.
Here is an illustration showing how emotion can be detected through the eyes of a person and can be destroying and eating them up inside.  It is the idea that they're wanting to speak out about how isolated they feel, as if they're gasping for help.
